A 38-year-old local dealer was arrested on Monday for beating his wife and threatening to kill her and their daughter because he wanted money to gamble with, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said yesterday during a special press conference.
According to the spokesperson, the victim, a 32-year-old local woman, reported the case to the police on March 25. She told the police that her husband, surnamed Lam, had beaten her every time she refused to give him money for gambling since they were married in 2008.The spokesperson said the victim had endured her husband’s violence for about a decade because he had always begged her for forgiveness after beating her, and she had not wanted to break up the family.
