Huawei Macau announced yesterday the launch of the Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026 at the Macau Science Centre (MSC) in Nape, marking the fifth consecutive year of the event aimed at cultivating the city’s next generation of digital innovators.

ICT stands for Information and Communication Technology.

The press conference, co-organised by Huawei Macau, the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPPTM), and the Macau Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology (MAPST), brought together government officials, educators, and industry representatives.

Huawei Macau CEO Jin Ben (金本) said that the annual competition has attracted over 3,200 participants in the past four years, from secondary school students to university contestants, highlighting the University of Macau’s (UM) first global-prize win in last year’s computing category as proof of “the potential of Macau’s youths and competitiveness in ICT.”

“This year’s contest aims to continue our mission to build high-quality platforms for Macau’s young talent to be seen and recognised,” he said, adding that the competition will focus on key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), data applications, and cloud computing. He noted that participants can also take Huawei’s professional certification exams, turning the contest into “a springboard for young people to enter the ICT industry.”

CPTTM President Victoria Alex Kuan Chan (關治平) said the collaboration with Huawei aligns with Macau’s drive for appropriate economic diversification and digital transformation. “ICT skills are not only technical assets but a foundation for future competitiveness,” she said, encouraging educators to motivate students to join the contest as “a valuable opportunity for learning and international exchange.”

Meanwhile, MAPST President Sio Hon Pan also praised Huawei’s efforts, noting that the competition “helps cultivate comprehensive talent capable of integrating AI and cloud technologies into real-world applications,” aiming to strengthen Macau’s innovation ecosystem.

According to a statement from the press conference, the Huawei ICT Competition 2025/2026 will run from this month to December, featuring regional, Asia-Pacific, and global stages, as participants will compete across network, cloud, computing, and innovation categories, with top teams advancing to represent Macau on the world stage.

The statement did not specify the exact schedule of the upcoming competition.
