Melco Resorts & Entertainment commemorated the achievements of its “Foundation Acceleration Programme (Culinary)” graduates and welcomed its new batch of participants on Wednesday, according to a statement on the same day.
The event also “recognised colleagues for their contributions and commitment towards culinary excellence and sustainable culinary practices”.
The statement noted that Culinary FAP was launched by the integrated resort operator in 2021 with support from the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and the Macao University of Tourism (UTM).
“Through the programme, Melco aims to discover and nurture local culinary talent while reinforcing Macau’s position as a UNESCO designated ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’”, the statement said, and nurtures culinary talent through structured on-the-job training, cross-functional exposure, and formal and informal education in collaboration with local government and universities, according to the statement.
Participants also get opportunities for skill development through job rotations, hands-on experience, management training, mentorship and career planning.
Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung was quoted by the statement as saying: “This programme reflects our commitment to supporting Macau government’s economic diversification goals by integrating it as part of Melco’s ‘Whole Person Development’ initiatives, with the aim of nurturing local culinary talent and providing enhanced and diverse career opportunities”.
Fifty-two local talents have graduated from the programme since it was launched in 2021, representing 90 percent of all participants with over 60 percent of graduates receiving promotions in their new roles, the statement said.
The Wednesday event celebrated 10 more graduates and the welcoming of the latest batch of 16 enrolees.
