“Artletics”, an exhibition by French artist Laurent Perbos*, was inaugurated yesterday at integrated resort City of Dreams (COD) in Cotai, aiming to transform the space into a dynamic encounter between contemporary art and athleticism while echoing the spirit of the upcoming 15th National Games in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Drawing inspiration from the classical ideals of ancient Greece where art and sport were inseparable, the exhibition reinterprets modern athletic competition through Perbos’ signature humour and creativity, according to an information board at the exhibition entrance.
The artist reconfigures familiar sports elements – from tennis courts and basketball structures to ping-pong tables – into interactive installations that aims to persuade exhibitiongoers to engage with both playfulness and performance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Perbos expressed his gratitude for being able to bring his vision to Macau, calling it “a promise, like opening a door to another world.” He added, “Art itself knows no borders… it is a family that speaks not only with words, but with materials, form, and emotion.”
Presented within the setting of City of Dreams, the exhibition aims to bridge French imagination and Chinese creativity, offering exhibitiongoers an immersive experience where the beauty of movement and the energy of sport meet artistic expression, according to the message.
The exhibition is open daily for exhibitiongoers from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. next to LAN Bar at COD. With free admission, the exhibition is open until January 4, 2026.
