Two training bases for Construction Engineering students and graduates from Macau have been set up in Hengqin as a part of the Macau New Neighbhourhood (MNN) project on the adjacent island in Guangdong province, Macau Urban Renewal Limited said in a statement yesterday.
The bases were officially launched by China Construction Engineering (Macau) Company in conjunction with the MNN project management on Thursday.
According to the statement, the two bases comprise a "construction practicum base" for Construction Engineering students and graduates from Macau and a "training base for prefabricated construction". They aim to nurture Macau's university students and graduates with a major in Construction Engineering to familiarise themselves with the construction industry's standards in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), the statement noted.
The GBA comprises nine cities in Guangdong province and the nation's two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau. Hengqin is a special economic district (Hengqin New Area) in the city of Zhuhai, which abuts Macau.
The bases will provide practicum, training and employment opportunities "to nurture talents for the development of Macau's prefabricated construction industry," the statement said, adding that a plaque-unveiling ceremony of the two bases was held at the MNN project site in Hengqin on Thursday afternoon.
The statement pointed out that the MNN project has been "fully underway" since early this year.
According to the statement, it is the first real-estate project developed for Macau residents "that integrates quality-living space, education and health and social services as a part of promoting and implementing the development of the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin," the statement underlined, adding that the project's residential units will adopt the prefabricated construction method that is also environmentally friendly."
According to the statement, the project will consist of about 4,000 residential units for sale "and over 200 housing [units] for talents."
The statement predicted that future construction projects in Macau will focus on prefabricated construction.
According to the statement, the project's piling works are slated to be completed this year. The whole project is expected to be completed in 2023, the statement said.
Macau Urban Renewal Limited is a company formed by the government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR), the Macau Industrial and Commercial Development Fund and the Science and Technology Development Fund.
Hengqin covers an area of about 106 square kilometres, more than three times the size of Macau (33 km2). The one-square-kilometre campus of the public University of Macau in Hengqin has been leased by Macau from Guangdong.
