The Sports Bureau (ID) will not be holding any concerts to celebrate May Day and the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in the future, the president of the bureau, Pun Weng Kun, said yesterday.

The government has customarily organised concerts, featuring famous singers from various places, such as Hong Kong and the mainland, on Labour Day on May 1 and MSAR Establishment Day on December 20.

Government critics have claimed that the concerts primarily aimed at keeping residents away from demonstrating, as a number of groups traditionally hold protest marches on the two public holidays.
