A variety of artworks are being jointly presented by six religious communities in Macau, featuring works ranging from various styles of paintings and calligraphy to sculptures, all displayed together in harmony at Kun Iam Temple.
Organised with the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and displayed across two floors, the exhibition is entitled “Silent Radiance of Unity - Macao in Harmony”, with the religious communities presenting the exhibition being Buddhism, Catholicism, Taoism, Protestantism, the Bahá’í Faith, and Islam. Among the aims of the exhibition is to start a discussion that transcends language, race, and skin colour through visual experience.
According to a recent exhibition statement provided at the venue, since the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in December 1999, various religious organisations have participated in social affairs and worked in conjunction with the local government to promote social harmony.
The statement added that cooperation between the six religions started in 2021 and has since resulted in various activities. The statement added that this year, for the first time, Macau’s six main religions “focus on the development of visual arts, engaging in deep communication and collaboration with numerous local artists, intangible cultural heritage bearers, and young artists”.
Moreover, a statement on a local website dedicated to the city’s religious heritage said that the exhibition also aims to enable members of the public to gain a deeper understanding of the value of religious culture, as well as discover and appreciate the works of young local artists.
Members of the public may visit the free-admission exhibition daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open until December 5. Beyond admiring the works on display, workshops and discussion sessions will also be held during the weekends throughout its run.
