A newborn Asian boy was discovered inside a zipped blue backpack amid a pile of rubbish in Areia Preta district early yesterday morning, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said yesterday.
Lei announced details of the case during a regular press conference.According to Lei, the baby was found by a street cleaner clearing up a pile of rubbish between Avenida do Dr. Francisco Vieira Machado and Travessa 1º de Maio, near the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), at around 4:45 a.m.
The baby, with his umbilical cord still attached, was taken to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre (CHCSJ) where he was assessed to be healthy, according to Lei.
