The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested on Monday an Indian security guard for stealing a bracelet and a power bank, PSP spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Wong identified the suspect as a 40-year-old Indian male surnamed Singh, who told police that he works in Macau as a security guard.

According to Wong, last Saturday the Public Security Police received a report from two security guards working at a hotel in Cotai, stating that their personal belongings had been stolen. They reported that they had placed a bag containing a bracelet worth 4,000 patacas and a power bank worth 300 patacas near a lift in the hotel lobby, Wong said.

When they finished work at around 11 p.m., according to Wong, they discovered that the bag had been moved to the hotel’s storage room, but the items that had been inside were missing. Hotel CCTV footage showed a man, Singh, acting suspiciously in the area, Wong said.

On Monday, the police summoned Singh for questioning, according to Wong. As his two colleagues whose valuables had vanished, Singh worked for a security company hired by the hotel. Under questioning, Singh admitted that he had taken the two items from the bag after finding it in the storage room, acting out of greed. PSP officers later recovered the bracelet and power bank from his home in San Kio district, Wong said.

Singh has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for further questioning, facing theft charges.
