The Public Security Police (PSP) apprehended a local man on Saturday for his alleged crime of evasion of responsibility, PSP spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The spokeswoman identified the suspect as a self-employed man surnamed Cheong who is in his seventies.
According to the spokeswoman, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report last Thursday from a citizen who said that she had parked her motorbike in a parking space on Rua de Entre-Campos (田畔街) in Macau Peninsula on December 1. Upon returning to retrieve her bike last Thursday, she discovered that the rear light and rear mudguard had been damaged. She reported a total loss of about 3,000 patacas to the police.
Through their citywide CCTV surveillance, the police discovered that a car’s rear struck the motorbike while making a turn in Rua de Entre-Campos. However, the driver did not stop to address the situation and instead left the scene immediately.
The police identified Cheong as the suspect and apprehended him in Rua Marginal do Canal das Hortas (菜園涌邊街) on Saturday. Under questioning, Cheong claimed that he was unaware of any collision with another vehicle at the time of the incident.
Cheong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of evasion of responsibility.
