A local youth fell victim to blackmail after chatting in the nude with a “female netizen”, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, a male reported to the Judiciary Police on Wednesday night that after meeting a woman on a social platform, he was induced into engaging in a nude chat. Subsequently, the woman blackmailed him for money, resulting in a total loss of around 19,350 yuan (22,030 patacas), Leng said.

On Wednesday morning, according to Leng, the victim was contacted by a woman on a social platform. They then switched to the Telegram app to continue their conversation. The woman provided a link, which the victim clicked, leading to the download of a software application and the login to an account, Leng said. Afterwards, Leng said that the victim was induced into engaging in nude chat for around one minute. After the call ended, the woman immediately sent the victim’s explicit images and demanded a payment of 5,000 yuan, threatening to release the photos publicly if the payment was not made, Leng said.

After the victim complied and transferred the money, according to Leng, the woman continued to demand further payments under various pretexts. The victim later made two additional transfers totalling 14,350 yuan to two mainland bank accounts, Leng said.

When the woman persisted in demanding more money, Leng said, the victim was unable to continue paying up and finally decided to report the case to the Judiciary Police.
