Tourist coach hits taxi, injuring 5

A traffic accident involving a tourist coach which collided with a taxi in Taipa at 4 p.m. yesterday, resulting in five people from the Chinese mainland being injured, according to a statement by the Fire Services Bureau (CB).

According to the preliminary investigation by the Public Security Police (PSP), two pedestrians were jaywalking opposite the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) barracks on Estrada da Baía de Nossa Senhora da Esperança (望德聖母灣大馬路) in Taipa, causing a taxi to stop suddenly, causing the coach behind to rear-end the taxi and resulting in the taxi hitting the jaywalkers. 

The statement added that a male and two female passengers on the tourist coach sustained minor injuries to their lower back, legs, and head respectively, while the two jaywalkers suffered leg injuries. The injured are aged between 12 and 72; they are all holders of travel permits from the Chinese mainland.

 All the injured were conscious and in stable condition, and were taken to the private Kiang Wu Hospital Taipa Medical Centre. The details and cause of the accident are pending announcement by the police, the statement said.
