The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said yesterday that as of yesterday afternoon, its 24/7 tourism hotline, (853) 2833 3000, had received seven enquiries or requests for assistance from Macau residents related to the ongoing Middle East situation, primarily concerning them being stranded in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Dubai as well as other issues regarding flights, public broadcaster TDM reported yesterday.

MGTO underlined that it is closely monitoring and following up on the latest situation, according to the report.

Following the US-Israel military attack on Iran in violation of international law, MGTO raised its travel alerts for Iran and Israel to the highest Level 3 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

There are three levels in MGTO’s travel alert system, where Level 3 is the highest risk category, which advises residents to avoid travelling to the destination due to an extreme threat to personal safety, while Level 2 advises residents to avoid non-essential travel to the destination due to an elevated threat to personal safety. Level 1 suggests that a threat to personal safety has emerged in the destination, advising travellers to exercise caution and monitor the latest developments that might affect personal safety.

MGTO is urging Macau residents not to travel to Iran and Israel, and advising those currently in either country to step up vigilance for safety and leave the countries as soon as possible.
