A 54-year-old local woman who headed a fraud gang has been arrested for cheating local and mainland victims out of about 3 million patacas, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Choi, the woman, surnamed Chan, set up the all-women gang in 2010 to scam money out of both local and mainland residents by persuading them to invest in the gang’s “charity fund” for “a treasure hunt on Mount Emei”.

Mount Emei, one of the nation’s Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains, is in Sichuan province.
