The Health Bureau (SSM) announced in a statement last night a cluster of influenza-like illness detected at a local school.

The cluster involves six students (three male, three female) from Class P5D at Saint Paul School on Rampa dos Cavaleiros, the statement said.

The affected students began developing symptoms including fever and cough on March 19. Some have sought medical attention, and all cases are reported to be mild with no severe complications. Testing confirmed that two of the patients tested positive for Influenza B.

The bureau reminded the public that January to March is the peak influenza season in Macau. The 2025–26 seasonal influenza vaccine, which provides protection against both Influenza A and B, remains the most effective measure for preventing flu-related severe illness and death. Residents who have not been vaccinated since September last year are advised to do so.

The bureau also urged the public to take additional preventive measures. These include receiving seasonal influenza and updated COVID-19 vaccinations, ensuring adequate rest and a balanced diet, maintaining good personal and hand hygiene, covering mouth when coughing and sneezing with a tissue or elbow, and avoiding crowded places. Those experiencing symptoms are advised to wear a mask, seek medical attention promptly, and rest at home.
