The Judiciary Police (PJ) nabbed four suspects from the Chinese mainland for participating in a drug party in hotel guestroom on Thursday, PJ spokesman Cheong Un Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the quartet as a 38-year-old businessman surnamed Gao, a 43-year-old jobless man surnamed Zhou, a 37-year-old businessman surnamed Zheng and a 25-year-old saleswoman surnamed Lei.

According to Cheong, at noon on Thursday, the Judiciary Police received a report from a hotel in Cotai that a staff member had discovered drug-taking paraphernalia while cleaning a guestroom.

Upon arrival, with the assistance of hotel security, Cheong said, PJ officers intercepted the quartet and sized a packet containing around 2.8 grams of suspected crystal meth, along with drug-taking paraphernalia including a modified water bottle, aluminium foil and a lighter in the guestroom.

Tests by the Judiciary Police confirmed the substance as crystal meth worth around 8,400 patacas, Cheong said. Urine tests confirmed all of them as drug users.

The investigation revealed that the quartet are long-time friends, Cheong said, adding that Gao is suspected of smuggling the drugs into Macau, after which he and the others consumed them together in the guestroom.

The quartet have meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drug-taking and possession of drug-taking paraphernalia; additionally, Gao faces a drug-trafficking charge.

This undated handout photo provided by the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday shows evidence seized from the hotel guestroom booked by the drug-taking quartet and the suspects’ drug-taking paraphernalia.
