Chan Kuong In, chairman of the Macau Association for Intellectual Development Services (MAIDS), said yesterday that a new exhibition aims to showcase the ‘indomitable spirit’ of the association’s trainees.
Chan made the remarks during an awards ceremony for the creative design and slogan competition “Take A Breath”. The event, held at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape, also features an art exhibition titled “Spurring the Steeds for the Expedition”.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the association’s establishment. In order to celebrate the Year of the Horse, the exhibition features both two-dimensional and three-dimensional works centred on the animal.
Chan highlighted that the pieces reflect the various experiences and challenges the trainees have faced during their personal growth, aiming to demonstrate their resilience and vitality. The “Spurring the Steeds for the Expedition” exhibition remains on display at The Plaza Restaurant until Friday.
According to a leaflet published by the association, MAIDS (formerly the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the holistic development of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Its core values include a steadfast commitment to a person-centred approach, the continuous improvement of professional therapeutic services, and the creation of a social safety net, according to the Chinese-language leaflet. The association states in the leaflet that it seeks to develop the potential of those with intellectual disabilities, enhancing their quality of life and putting the spirit of social inclusion into practice.
