Integrated resort operator Sands China has drawn over 15.7 million MICE visits from around the world since 2007, the integrated resort operator said in a statement earlier this week.
The statement, which highlighted its efforts in driving MICE development to advance Macau’s economic diversification, said that the company has hosted close to 12,800 MICE events across a broad spectrum of global industries, noting that since opening The Venetian Macao in 2007 and establishing the Cotai Expo, Macau’s largest MICE facility, it laid “a solid foundation for the city’s international competitiveness in the MICE industry”, remaining “steadfast in advancing non-gaming development, driving Macau’s MICE sector to evolve from an emerging industry into a high-growth pillar”.
The statement said that currently, Sands China’s total MICE facilities span over 1.6 million square feet.
The statement added that the company believes MICE serves as a “powerful economic multiplier”, while highlighting “strong international connectivity” that allows it to attract a raft of international business travellers and professionals. In this regard, the statement highlighted that in 2025, the company recorded 380,000 room nights by international guests across its integrated resorts.
“Sands China has long played a proactive role in promoting the [MICE] industry’s advancement. It has leveraged its world-class integrated resorts to enhance Macau’s capacity and competitiveness in hosting large-scale international MICE events, successfully attracting a wide range of globally influential, high-value conferences and exhibitions to the city”, the statement noted.
Sands China Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Grant Chum Kwan Lock was quoted by the statement as highlighting the company’s pivotal role in developing Macau’s MICE industry.
Chum pointed out: “Looking ahead, Sands China will continue to align closely with the Macau SAR government’s ‘Tourism+’ policy. Through the continued strengthening of synergies across non-gaming sectors, our company endeavours to further elevate Macau’s global competitiveness and appeal, while supporting the development of its diversified economy, and remains committed to consolidating the city’s position as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.”
