Local MTel Telecom Company (MTel) signed strategic cooperation agreements yesterday with the Jiangnan University’s* School of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (School of Software) and Jiangsu Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Northwest Star Information Technology Company during a promotional event, aiming to jointly develop an all-scenario artificial intelligence (AI)-powered, integrated smart care solution tailored to local communities, households, and senior care institutions by integrating underlying telecommunication computing power with cutting-edge AI research and technology .
The promotional event and exchange luncheon, themed “Smart Golden Years: Letting AI Become a Caring Guardian for the Elderly”, was held at L’Arc Hotel Macau in Nape.
MTel Chairman Michael Choi Tak Meng said in a speech that as a Macau-founded fixed public telecommunications operator, MTel closely aligns with the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) Government’s “1+4” strategy for appropriate economic diversification, adding that his company remains committed to continuously driving the integration of digital technology with local livelihood industries.
Choi pointed out that with the rapid ageing of Macau’s population, improving elderly safety at home, enhancing their quality of life, and preserving their dignity in their golden years have become key concerns for civil society. He highlighted that this collaboration is not a simple import of mature technologies from the Chinese mainland. Instead, it involves tailored adaptation to Macau’s unique living environments and the usage habits of elderly residents, aiming to develop a user-friendly, one-stop smart care solution that meets the actual needs of the local community.
Furthermore, Choi underscored that smart senior care is a long-term, systematic project that requires supportive policy direction from the government. He added that his company will continue to leverage its robust infrastructure network to integrate resources across industry, academia, and research.
