The Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement last night that it may hoist Standby Signal No. 1 tonight as a gradually intensifying tropical cyclone located yesterday east of the Philippines is forecast to enter within 800 kilometres of Macau.
The statement noted that the tropical cyclone is expected to move towards the eastern coast of Guangdong tomorrow and continue to intensify. It added that, due to uncertainties in the system’s track and intensity, the bureau is closely monitoring the situation.
Temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to be “extremely hot” under the influence of the system’s outer subsiding airflow, which could trigger thunderstorms accompanied by strong gusts starting this afternoon.
The bureau reminded the public to pay attention to the latest weather updates. Furthermore, the Yellow Hot Weather Alert remains in force, with residents advised to take precautions against heatstroke as maximum temperatures could reach 33°C or higher.
