Judiciary Police (PJ) Director Sit Chong Meng announced yesterday that a total of 255 participants have graduated from their two training programmes, titled “Community Safety Youth Leader Programme” and “Youth Crime Fighter”, each of which lasted a year, with the aim of taking advantage of peer influence to convey patriotism and legal knowledge.
The Community Safety Youth Leader Programme is for college students, while Youth Crime Fighter is aimed at secondary students. Both are held annually.
Meanwhile, the launch ceremony for the two new programmes was held on the University of Macau’s (UM) campus. The programmes have attracted 100 university students from eight local higher education institutions and 300 secondary students from 43 local middle schools.
Sit said in his speech during the ceremony that since the programmes’ inception, both initiatives have cultivated nearly 3,400 young participants, with recruitment scales steadily expanding and training quality improving year after year.
Through continuous reforms and enhancements to the curriculum, the two programmes now also cover national affairs and national security education, criminal law, crisis response, and leadership skills, aiming to comprehensively elevate participants’ overall literacy and practical capabilities, Sit said.
A university student surnamed Choi told reporters on the sidelines of event that he participated in both schemes over the past three years, adding that trainees can systematically learn to identify various types of telecom fraud and gain key drug prevention knowledge, as well as master practical security skills, including crime recognition, preventive measures, and reporting protocols. He noted that this knowledge allows youngsters to protect family members and peers from criminal harm while helping others in the community.
Choi added that the schemes also provided opportunities to participate in community outreach schemes, enabling youths to raise anti-fraud and anti-drug awareness among the population, explain prevention methods and reporting channels, and effectively translate classroom knowledge into practical community service.
