Event coincides with charity’s 75th anniversary

The Charity Run of Caritas Macau 2026 will take place on October 11 at the University of Macau (UM), this year marking its 10th edition and coinciding with the local Catholic non-profit organisation’s (NGO) 75th anniversary.

Aiming for a target of 3,000 participants, a Caritas Macau statement on Friday highlighted that the run, organised by the charity and UM, again features various categories, namely a 10 km Challenge Run, 5 km Health Run, 10 km Team Mixed Relay (2.5 km per leg), 1.6 km Inclusive Run, and an Online Run. The latter, according to the statement, enables participants unable to visit UM to complete the designated distance “at any location” that day.

Regarding prizes, the statement said that top-three awards will be presented for both men and women in the challenge and health runs, along with the team relay category. A most popular team award is also up for grabs.

The event has drawn close to 20,000 runners and raised around 4 million patacas over its past nine editions. In his remarks at a recent event discussing details of the charity run, Caritas Macau Secretary General Paul Pun Chi Meng was quoted by the statement as saying that the run has “paved a path of love and hope for vulnerable groups through footsteps and perseverance”.

The statement highlighted that the funds raised in the wake of the upcoming edition will continue to go towards Caritas Macau’s social enterprises, including its home-care services for the elderly. The statement also noted plans to open another branch of its “Delightful Kitchen” on Rua da Praia do Manduco (下環街), a restaurant run by seniors that focuses on providing nutritionally balanced meals for the elderly and those with varied dietary needs.

Moreover, the statement said that the original branch on Rua Nova à Guia will be relocated to the Areia Preta district, featuring a “significantly expanded space”, with small-scale fundraising events, senior citizens’ gatherings, and special vegetarian banquets among events planned to be hosted there.

One can register until September 10, with a registration fee of 160 patacas. The statement added that for the parent-child segment, it is 160 patacas for adults and 100 patacas for those aged between four and 17. Meanwhile, it is 800 patacas per team for the Team Relay.
