Sands China is extending “A Century of Iec Long Firecracker Factory in Radiance – An Exhibition on the Resonant History and Aesthetic Memory of Macao Firecrackers” until November 29, due to an enthusiastic response by the public, the integrated resort operator said in a statement yesterday.
The exhibition at Sands Gallery opened in March and was slated to end next Monday.
With over 400 exhibits, the statement highlighted that the showcase has received “high acclaim”, and has drawn “residents, schools, associations, and travellers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Russia, South Korea, the United States, and Europe”. It also facilitated exchanges with descendants of firecracker factory families, international collectors, and cultural enthusiasts.
The extended run introduces several new exhibits and interactive additions. Curator Prof. Guilherme Ung Vai Meng has added firecracker-making tools gathered during field trips to major firecracker production sites in the provinces of Hunan and Jiangxi, alongside rare original promotional posters from the Po Sing Firecracker Factory, the statement said.
Visitors can also view “semi-finished products crafted according to traditional Macau techniques”, including firecracker cakes*, awls, and firecrackers in red, white, and blue wrappers, along with process diagrams, the statement said.
Interactive upgrades include the “Radiance Message Wall” featuring reflections from global guests while inviting new ones, and the “Radiance Label Collage Wall” for creating designs using traditional label patterns.
Public guided tour services also continue to be available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., alongside private group bookings for schools and community associations, with the statement highlighting a positive reception.
Meanwhile, the parallel exhibition “Legacy of Time – An Exhibition of Historical Documents on Macao’s Firecracker Industry” also continues to be on display at the MUST (Macau University of Science and Technology) Library until November 29.
