Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) Acting Deputy Director Wong I Lin said yesterday the bureau was planning to allow P1 to P4 pupils to repeat a year, contrary to the bureau’s consultation text last year.

Leong made the remarks during a press conference after a closed-door regular meeting of the Non-tertiary Education Committee at the Tourism Activities Centre (CAT).

The government launched a public consultation at the end of last year about establishing a system of evaluating pupils’ performance in local schools. The Non-higher Education System Framework Law, promulgated in 2006, requires the setting-up of a by-law regulating the methods local schools use to evaluate their pupils.
