The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that it will start tomorrow to renovate four free sports grounds in phases, with each venue temporarily closed for about 30 days to repair worn-out facilities and improve conditions for public recreation.

According to the statement, the final phase of the renovation programme covers the Free Sports Ground on Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van, the Free Sports Ground in Almirante Magalhães Correia, the Free Sports Ground in Taipa Central Park, and the Free Sports Ground of Edifício do Lago.

The works will include repairing cracks in ball court surfaces, repainting court coatings and markings, and replacing basketball backboards and rims, the statement said,

The bureau pointed out that it has been renovating a number of free sports grounds under its management since the end of last year due to wear and deterioration of facilities, the statement noted, adding that the four venues will be closed one after another rather than simultaneously, allowing residents to continue using other free sports grounds while individual sites undergo renovation.

The bureau said the improvements aim to provide the public with better-quality recreational and sports facilities and enhance the user experience, the statement underlined, reminding members of the public not to enter construction areas during the renovation period to avoid accidents.

The statement also said that residents are advised to pay attention to the phased closure arrangements when planning their sporting activities.
