Macau recorded 1,142,974 visitor arrivals during the Chinese mainland’s seven-day National Day Golden Week holiday period this year, representing a daily average of 163,282, according to data released by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) yesterday.

This year’s daily average represented an increase of 15.5 percent from the daily average of last year’s National Day-cum-Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period in the Chinese mainland, which lasted eight days.

Last year’s Mid-Autumn Festival fell on October 6, so the National Day holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday were combined in the mainland, lasting eight days in total.

This year, the seven-day National Day holiday period in the mainland began on Thursday last week and ended on Wednesday.

According to the MGTO data released yesterday, Macau recorded 169,635 visitor arrivals on the first day of this year’s National Day holiday period, 179,253 on the second day, 191,661 on the third day, 210,276 on the fourth day, 169,631 on the fifth day, 131,185 on the sixth day, and 91,333 on the last day.

A follow-up MGTO statement released yesterday said that the daily average of some 163,000 was the highest ever recorded for the mainland’s National Day holiday period.

The statement also said that the roughly 210,000 visitor arrivals on the fourth day (Sunday) was also the highest single-day number recorded for the mainland’s National Day holiday period.

In annual terms, Macau recorded its highest single-day number of visitors, 248,000, on May 2 this year, the second day of the Chinese mainland’s five-day Labour Day holiday period.
