A total of nine lawmakers yesterday jointly submitted two proposals, addressed to Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On, in an attempt to solve the protracted Pearl Horizon residential project dispute. They suggest that the government tackle the row without having to amend the Land Law.

Lawmaker Kwan Tsui Hang handed the two proposals to an official outside Government Headquarters yesterday, accompanied by six lawmakers who have jointly proposed the two solutions – Chan Meng Kam, Si Ka Lon, Ella Lei Cheng I, Song Pek Kei, Ho Ion Sang and Wong Kit Cheng. Two lawmakers, Lam Heong Sang and Chan Hong, were conspicuous by their absence.

The ill-fated Pearl Horizon project has been mothballed since December 2015 when its provisional land concession expired. Hong Kong-based developer Polytec is suing the government over the case. Dozens of pre-sale buyers have held a string of protest rallies and repeatedly petitioned the government over their plight.
