The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested the alleged “agent” of local university exam cheats on Sunday at the Barrier Gate checkpoint, a PSP spokesman announced at a regular press conference yesterday.

According to PSP spokesman Lei Kai Sang, the female suspect surnamed Tian, who is aged around 20 and from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is an undergraduate student in Macau.

Tian admitted to the police that she provided the intermediary service between the substitute exam takers and the students who hired them, according to Lei.

Lei declined to say which local universities were involved.

Tian faces possible document forgery charges as she arranged for the substitute exam takers to have a counterfeit Macau ID card and student card, according to Lei.

Lei said that Tian told the police that she had successfully organised the deception three times. Tian claimed she was not involved in
taking the exams for other students, but had merely “volunteered” to complete assignments and attend
classes for other students.

Tian told the police that she had not received any money for the “service”.

Tian has been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further questioning and possible arraignment, Lei added.
