The Judiciary Police (PJ) urged the public late last night to beware of phone scams by fraudsters pretending to be local customs and immigration officers.
According to a PJ message, on Sunday the Judiciary Police and Customs Service received reports about 75 phone scam cases by fraudsters masquerading as local customs or immigration officers. The message did not elaborate on what the scams were about.
Yesterday between midnight and 4 p.m. the Macau Customs Service, Public Security Police (PSP) and Judiciary Police received an additional 40 reported phone scams by cheats pretending to be customs or immigration officers.
Among the 40 cases, one victim was cheated out of 69,000 patacas and 90,000 yuan, according to the message.
