Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said yesterday the government would assist businesses in the city’s low-lying areas in the installation cargo lifts in their shops so that they can lift their goods off the ground quickly if flooding hits their neighbourhoods.

Leong made the remarks while speaking to reporters after overseeing the swearing-in ceremonies of newly-appointed Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) President Chan Sau San and newly-appointed Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) Director Chu Un I, at the Secretariat for Economy and Finance in the Bank of China (BOC) Building in Nam Van.

Leong said that the government would provide assistance to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) affected by last month’s Super Typhoon Hato, in the short, medium and long terms.
