Businessman and outgoing lawmaker Chan Meng Kam said yesterday that he was not interested “at the moment” in bidding for a gaming concession.

Macau’s three gaming concessions and three sub-concessions will expire between 2020 and 2022. The government has said that the concessions and sub-concessions won’t be renewed but will have to go through a bidding process.

Asked by a reporter on the sidelines of the new Hotel Royal Dragon opening ceremony if he was interested in bidding for a gaming concession and if he thought the government should increase the number of gaming concessions, Chan chuckled and said: “At the moment, no,” adding he thought, however, that the local gaming industry should be opened up further.
