The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) said in a statement yesterday that its staff had disposed of about 1,500 tins of baby formula sold at local pharmacies because they were “possibly damaged” by the floods when Super Typhoon Hato hit Macau last month.

The bureau said that it has ordered the pharmacies to stop selling the products. It has also ordered their recall for disposal by IACM officials.

According to the statement, after receiving a report from the Health Bureau (SSM), the IACM’s Food Safety Centre contacted Vang Vai Co. the local supplier, and confiscated the “possibly damaged” tins to prevent them from being delivered to local pharmacies, and also recalled those that had already been distributed.

The statement did not say when the IACM received the report from the Health Bureau.

By yesterday, the statement said, about 1,500 tins of “possibly damaged” baby formula have been disposed of. A total of seven pharmacies had been supplied with the products.

The statement said that legal action would be taken regarding the matter, while reminding the public not to buy products that may have been contaminated by the Hato floodwaters and that are being sold at a lower than normal price. To report such incidents, please call 2833 8181.
