Public Prosecutor-General Ip Son Sang said yesterday that the 21-year prison sentence for his predecessor Ho Chio Meng was fair, adding that Ho’s public trial was carried out in accordance with the law which made Ho’s claim that he was “persecuted” untenable.
Ip made the remarks yesterday when delivering a speech at a solemn ceremony marking the formal commencement of the Judicial Year 2017/18, at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape.
Ho was sentenced in July to 21 years behind bars for over 1,000 crimes including corruption, fraud, embezzlement, organised crime, money laundering and unjustified wealth.
