The police stopped yesterday morning a man from the mainland in the restricted area of the local airport, who had earlier driven to the city from the mainland via the Lotus Flower Bridge checkpoint without going through immigration and customs procedures, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lei Tak Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.
According to Lei, around 8:30 a.m. yesterday the police and the customs received information from the mainland’s Public Security Bureau (PSB) about a private car crossing the mainland side of the Cotai-Hengqin checkpoint illegally. Local officers were asked to stop the vehicle.
Local police and customs officers tried to block the vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, but to no avail. Instead, the car managed to cross the Macau side of the checkpoint by going through the space between two barriers at the checkpoint, Lei said. According to Lei, due to the soft and flexible material used in the barriers, the barriers were not damaged even though the vehicle was driven straight through them.
