Helder Beja, the programme director of The Script Road – Macau Literary Festival, told government-owned broadcaster TDM Radio Macau yesterday the organisers had been informed “semi-officially” that the presence of three writers invited for this year’s event was “inappropriate”.
“We were told semi-officially that the arrival of those writers in Macau – Jung Chang, Suki Kim and James Church is not appropriate and, therefore, their entry into the territory could not be guaranteed [by the authorities],” Beja was quoted as saying.
Beja added that the organisers have therefore withdrawn the three invitations.
