The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a local man on Tuesday for cheating at least eight people since last October by claiming that he could offer a discounted rate for exchanging HK dollars into other currencies, PJ spokeswoman Yeung Sau Chan said during a special press conference yesterday.

Yeung identified the suspect as a 34-year-old jobless man surnamed Lai who used to work as a casino host.

The fraud emerged on Tuesday when three victims took Lai to the PJ headquarters in Zape and reported the case. The police later succeeded in contacting four other victims, who told the police that they had decided to file criminal complaints against Lai, according to Yeung. The seven victims are aged between 25 and 27.
