A man from the mainland has been arrested for allegedly cheating a fellow mainlander out of HK$700,000 last week, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Lei, the suspect is a 25-year-old man surnamed Zhang, who claimed to be unemployed, while the victim is a businessman.

Lei said that the victim travelled to Macau on Wednesday with three friends to gamble. After their arrival, the victim was introduced to Zhang and another man who turned out to be his accomplice. The victim borrowed HK$2 million from Zhang and his accomplice to gamble. The victim wasn’t required to give the suspects anything as collateral.
