Schools can hold disaster exercises and drills to be better prepared for situations similar to last year’s fatal Super Typhoon Hato, but the community where each school is located could make disaster prevention and management more effective, Chinese Educators’ Association of Macau Executive Director Chan Kin Pong said yesterday.
Chan was speaking to reporters after attending the “Wynn Cup – Macau Primary School Student National Education Drawing Competition” award ceremony at Wynn Palace.
Last week, Kong Ngai, who heads the Education Department of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ), said that Macau’s 77 non-tertiary schools will have to set up a disaster management team and will have to hold two drills per year to raise awareness to help them be better prepared for catastrophes such as Hato.
