Local boxer Ng Kuok Kun aka KK aka The Macau Kid retained his China Professional Boxing Union (CPBU) belt in Ding’an, Haikou yesterday, but an accidental clash of heads in the final round left him with nine stitches above the right eyebrow.
Defending of his Super Welterweight (154lbs) title KK (12-0-0, 7 KOs) was up against Thailand’s Wathanyu (10-5-5) in a 10 round fight taking place in Ding’an, Haikou which is on Hainan Island on the mainland.
Hainan is the smallest and southernmost province of the People’s Republic of China, consisting of various islands in the South China Sea. Hainan Island is almost on the same latitude as Hawaii and has the same tropical monsoon climate and is often known as the ‘Eastern Hawaii’.
