Albano Martins and Anima have been fighting to save the greyhounds at Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. for a very long time and in 2011 joined forces with international animal rescue organisations to tell the world what was happening to the dogs that were unlucky enough to be shipped to Macau from Australia and Ireland to race here.

The company has been given until July 20 to remove the dogs from the racetrack and cease operations. The Civic and Municipal Bureau (IACM) had given the company, headed by gaming executive-cum-lawmaker Angela Leong On Kei, until last Friday to come up with a plan of what to do with the about 650 greyhounds.

Last week MPD Weekender sat down with Martins in Nam Van about the possible fate of the dogs if Anima cannot take over their care and ship them to prospective adopters overseas which at the moment the animal welfarists have for 450 of the canines.
