In an email message on Saturday, Anima President Albano Martins told The Macau Post Daily that the “next steps are hard, but yes we can [rescue all the greyhounds]” left behind in the kennels of the Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Co. Ltd. racetrack after its closure on Friday
The animal protection activist also said in his message that “now is not the time to concentrate only on thanking Anima and its partners for having successfully closed the Canidrome and also having succeeded in convincing the Macau Government, through the IACM [Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau], to handle the Canidrome pound, until they find a better way to manage it. I strongly believe this is not its job!”
Martins went on to say that Anima respects any decision that the government makes in regard to the over 500 canines abandoned on the racetrack premises in Fai Chi Kei when the company officially closed its doors for the last time on Friday night, as long as “the greyhounds always come first.”
