A total of 24 lifeguards who were on strike earlier this week over an employment dispute will return to work today after they and their employer reached a compromise during negotiations yesterday, Sports Bureau (ID) Vice-President Lam Lin Kio said yesterday at the bureau in Avenida Dr. Rodrigo Rodrigues in Zape.
Lam made the remarks in a media briefing after a meeting attended by representatives of her bureau, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), the striking lifeguards, and their employer Surf Hong.
The strikers had voiced a raft of grievances such as excessive overtime, late salary payments, lack of holidays and retention of their ID cards and travel documents by the company.
