Macau Radiology Association Chairman Leong Iat Cheng said that early treatment for stroke patients could lead to a better recovery, it is important for the public to remember and recognise the signs and symptoms of a stroke.

Leong made the remarks yesterday during the opening ceremony of the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting held by the Macau Radiology Association and the Macau Radiological Technologists’ Association. Yesterday’s seminar at Grand Hyatt focused on the theme of acute strokes.

“Intravenous Thrombolytics have been an effective method in the recovery from acute ischemic strokes. However, it can only be used within four and a half hours of the onset. According to surveys, less than 10 percent of patients that had had an acute ischemic stroke arrived at the hospital within four and a half hours. Most of the patients suffered from severe sequelae and even death due to delayed treatment,” Leong said during her speech.
