A number of households in the city’s flood-hit neighbourhoods following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Mangkhut were still without power last night due to flood-damaged electricity-supply components in their buildings.

When serious flooding was hitting the city’s various low-lying areas on Sunday afternoon, power utility CEM took the initiative to cut electricity at sub-power stations in these areas with the aim of enabling the company to resume electricity for affected households following the floods’ subsidence.

CEM said on Sunday that this practice was to ensure residents’ safety and protect the facilities. Ha Van (Praia do Manduco) district, Patane district, Lam Mau Tong district and Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro (commonly known as “San Ma Lou”) were affected by the measure.
