The 11th Macau International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (2018 MIECF), the opening ceremony of which took place at the Venetian yesterday, is focusing its attention on the development of eco-cities.

In his welcoming address, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said that with its Five-Year Development Plan, the government “aims to reinforce the creation of a liveable city, to strengthen environmental protection and to encourage green living, making society move towards sustainable development and reinforcing regional cooperation to create a better environment for the ecological civilisation in the region.”

Chui also said that the government “plays an active role in the national development and construction of the Belt and Road initiative (BRI), the Pan-Pearl River Delta Regional Cooperation, and the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA), which bring major opportunities for Macau’s future growth. Macau will take these opportunities to actively strengthen collaboration on environmental protection and develop a green economy.”
