Observatory gets new chief after predecessor’s 1-year concurrent appointment ends

The government announced yesterday that Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) Director Raymond Tam Van Man yesterday served his last day as director of the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) and that Tang Iu Man, who currently heads the weather bureau’s Meteorological Division, will be the acting director starting from today.

The weather bureau made the announcement in a statement yesterday.

Tam had headed the weather station after its then director, Fong Soi Kun, quit following strong criticism over the bureau’s forecasts concerning Super Typhoon Hato which devastated the city in August last year.
