The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge recorded its first case of a traveller, a two-year-old boy from the mainland, suffering from a fever, on Friday, the Health Bureau (SSM) said in a statement on Saturday.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) officially began operating on Wednesday last week. President Xi Jinping had inaugurated the world’s longest sea bridge on the previous day.

The statement said that the bureau received a report from Gongbei Customs about the first traveller on the bridge to have a fever at 3 p.m. on Friday. The boy’s body temperature was 38.3 degrees Celsius when crossing the border, but after an assessment, SSM ruled out that the condition was caused by a serious infectious disease, and the boy was allowed to enter Macau.

The statement also noted that since Wednesday SSM officials have found four people with fever amongst those travelling between Macau and Hong Kong on the delta bridge, and all were allowed entry.
