The judgement on a defamation trial brought by Polytex Corporation Ltd. (Polytex) versus Lei Kong, editor-in-chief of local Chinese-language weekly Son Pou, will be pronounced on December 17, the Court of First Instance (TJB) said during the trial’s summing-up on Friday.

The summing-up by Polytex’s lawyer Leonel Alves insisted that although Macau enjoyed freedom of the press, the media also needed to ensure truthful information was being provided to the public, claiming that some of the contents of Lei’s articles about the Pearl Horizon situation were false.

Polytex is the Macau branch of Hong Kong-listed developer Polytec Asset Holdings Ltd.
