601 books published in Macau in 2018: report

A total of 601 books were published in Macau last year, Radio Macau reported yesterday, a decrease of 36 books compared to 2017, quoting a report by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC).

According to the IC report, Macau had 954 registered publishers at the end of last year, an increase of 1,438 percent from the 62 registered publishers in 2000, the first full year after the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) in December 1999. 

The IC report noted that 44 publishers requested to join the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) system last year.

At the end of last year, 397 publishers were non-governmental organisations (NGOs), 252 were individuals, 187 were commercial organisations, 65 were government entities, 35 were schools, and 18 were “special groups”.
