The government will launch a public consultation on an amendment bill to the Legislative Assembly Election Law by the end of the month as planned, Secretary for Administration and Justice Sonia Chan Hoi Fan said yesterday.

The policy secretary made the remarks on the sidelines of a bazaar jointly hosted by the Macau Basic Law Promotion Association (ADLBM) and several government organs in Praça do Tap Seac. She declined to reveal any details of the bill since it was still being finalised.

Chan had previously told reporters that the government wanted to enhance the competitiveness of the indirect elections and electoral impartiality, adding she hoped the bill will be passed by the legislature and enacted before next year’s direct and indirect elections of the Legislative Assembly (AL).
